New Series- "Interview With"

Hi All,

I'm doing a new series of interviews with different aspects of the beauty/fashion communities. I wanted to interview some of the behind the scenes persons like photographers, models, hairstylists and of course makeup artists and others. I just wanted to shine a light on people who may never get the "Superstar" treatment and this is a way from them to get their "shine on".

This will be a fun series for me because of the highlights these interviews will have on all the positions and jobs in the beauty/fashion industries. I'll be interviewing local, nationally and undiscovered talent in US and aboard, as well as some of the stars or what we call the "celebrities" of the beauty/fashion world.

Because there are so many levels and positions that it could go on for ever. But I'm not going to be doing some long drawing out series of interviews. Just a few on each part of the beauty/fashion world to give an insiders view on the career.

Yeah this is going to be fun!!! And my very first interview is with a wonderful photographer. It was great plus interesting and informational.

Stay tune....   A Day and Life of a MUA signing off!

Scenario #1- Unable to Pay to Play

Ok everyone this is a story that has been told time and time again. The I'm unable to pay you for your services so I'll give you the photos as a trade for your services.
This is where my story begins:

A young lady by the name of Lala (real name has been kept private for the privacy of the person) had sent me a message on Facebook requesting my makeup artistry service for a upcoming fashion show. I replied to her message letting the new potential client know the cost it may be for me to do the event on short notice. Of course, since she was a new client I gave her a nice size discount.

Lala sent me a message back notifying me that the price I quoted her would be out of their budget. So I quote her another price and she did not reply back. I thought the negotiation period was over at that point. But later on the day of the event Lala sent another message urging me to call her immediately. I did and we talk about me doing the hair of the models for the fashion show since she had no one to do so.

I let Lala know that I could do hair and asked what time and the location of the event. Since I've already gave a price for the makeup services, I felt that I'll keep the price the same for the hairstyling services. I was not aware or informed that my services were for a TFP (trade for photos) type of situation.

So later that evening before I finished all the models hairstyling, I decided to inform Lala of my decision to cut the price even more since she was my ride to the event and also back home. See I'm generous! Lala notified me that she will call me the next morning to lock in the compensation of my services. I didn't receive that call, so I called her the next day.

This is when she notified me of the TFP situation of the terms for my services. I let her know that I was being more than generous on all the discounts I gave her for the event. And I felt it would be unprofessional and unfair to not pay me what was stated in the messages before.

Now yes I know some of you will probably say do we discuss the terms of compensation for hairstyling during the phone call. And the answer to that is not in detail but since I quote a price of my services in the first place I felt she knew what she was getting into. And also since she needed me and requested the service 3 hours before the event. I felt it would be only but fair to not overcharge her for someone else's misfortune.

The story currently continues now and I hope there will be a good ending.
