Listening and participating on today's Lipstick Lecture was really informative and had me understanding that the decisions I made were right for me. As a Mom in the business of makeup artistry isn't easy. People think one thing that makeup artistry is a glam job not a sometime gritty, hard and put to the grind but thought provoking career. And being a Mom, myself, I've involved my children into the decision I made to becoming a makeup artist in Film and Television. The business is long hours, there are days were I see my child for a few hours in the morning before she goes to school and then I might not see her until the next morning. (But my daughter won't really go to bed until she see me before she close her eyes to sleep.)
The one thing that Marietta Carter-Narcisse said is having a great support team (spouse, mom, dad, sister or brother, or even an awesome nanny) can make all the difference. We definitely need a village to raise a child or children--this statement is so very true. Us, as women have to really understand that we can have it all but not at the same time. This is a concepts that we, women, of today still have not grasped. And understanding this will help greatly in the long run. She also touch on not feeling upset or bad about the decision you make as Mom in the makeup artistry business. Just look into other avenues (hopefully in makeup) that can bring in money and still satisfy your creativity.
My one piece of advice is to new Moms in makeup artistry biz is this--stay true to you and make the right decision for yourself and your career with no regrets. Because every decision you make changes the course of your life and your family's life and your career. So being truthful with yourself should be the highest priority. This really became a great Lipstick Lecture call and one of those AH HA! moments. I hope this helps someone who's reading this that are a Mom or even a Dad.

Review: Script Breakdown & Set Etiquette with Workshops by Marietta
Okay people, now when it comes to Film and Television makeup business no one does it better than Marietta Carter-Narcisse. Her online courses for the "business side" of makeup artistry is just that...a true class. I felt like I was back in college better yet high school during last week's course- end of January (my high school wasn't easy with their education). Everything is setup online but you do have homework assignments, class participating, quizzes for each assignment and a Final...yes, a Final. Marietta has set this up for artists (new and experienced) who are serious about their careers as a makeup artist.
Normally, classes about paperwork and the business parts are boring right! Well, not this one! Marietta keeps it fun--informative but fun. I truly did learn a lot about Who's Who on set to Set Terminology to what it truly means to be a makeup artist in the industry of Film and Television. This is a class you don't want to miss if you are a MUA who is either interested in working in Film and Television or just starting out or already working in the industry. This class you won't get at any other school and it's not your "let me show how to do a smoky eye" type. This is the real deal to prepare you for what's waiting once you walk onto the Set.
If any of you reading this post are interested in attending one or both Workshops by Marietta courses, click on the link: www.mariettacarter-narcisse.com then click on the left saying "Workshops by Marietta" for more information. This month's workshop deals with how to run and make a good impression for your beauty business as a makeup artist.
I so enjoyed my class, instructor and fellow students. It was a BLAST!

Feeling Sluggish and Out of Place
Today is one of those kind of days, where the sun is so far away that you're unable to feel its warmth and glow on your skin. Well, that's the way I'm feeling today...right now...at this moment! I'm feeling a little defeated by the way my month of February 2014 has started. No jobs lined up for this month as of right now. Last month was an awesome start for the year 2014 and I thought it would keep going, but no I was wrong. Just having meetings, phone calls and video chats setup things for the next couple of months. And that's great for those months but what about February?! I'm just saying in order for me to become a Make-Up Artist in high demand every month of the year needs to be busy not a few--unless I become a Union member for Film and Television then a few to several months out of the year well be great. (Because the month I'm not on set are actual months I doing prep work- which means I'm still working;-))
Because I'm a freelancer, working for myself, I need to be on set or at a shoot or working at an beauty event at least twice a month to meet my goals for that month. So to all you beautiful decision makers out there and you find that you need a talented, skill makeup artist --Contact Me!
You know just writing my thoughts here actually helped me. I'm starting to feel better already and that's what being positive and venting (getting things of my chest) can do. Oh wow, the sun is out and I'm going outside to enjoy it. Bye for now!!!
