Dealing with the Public

Just speaking on what I have learned in the past few years as a professional makeup artist. I love when a photographer, fashion coordinator, or whoever is in charge of a shoot or fashion show says this... "This gig/assignment will be TFP or non-paying." Now normally that would set off alarms to NOT WORK WITH, but learning different ways to approach this situation is interesting and can be awarding.

1st I try to be diplomatic about their status and budget. After I have thought things through, I'll suggest a payment arrangement to help ease some of their troubles. (This may work some of the times but not always...so be careful!!!)

I will suggest this only if the 1st solution doesn't work to my favor.
2nd I will work out something to pay a fee involving travel and kit. (This one I'm finding is working out a lot more than I thought expected it would.)

3rd and final is this one. If they are still not willing to move to solution 1 or 2. Then I can either just graciously decline or give and have them sign my TFP/TFCD contract. (Actually all this is a contract that simply states within a two weeks to a month time frame I will be doing a paid job with them.)
This one actually works in both parties favor. They get a MUA for their needs at the moment and I get a new client for a future assignment.

I truly love how the business mind and negotiations can work to my advantage. Caution!...Always remember during negotiations that you are the CEO of your business and you have to think what is best for you and the client. So watch what you say and your body language because that can make the difference between you getting the job or the client never calling you again.

Positivity

I've stated that I may write things about my day to day life and this is one of them. I had come to the understanding that it's not all about my ability to transform a woman or man into their beautiful selves. But the acknowledgement of those who surround me. Their support and positive energy is what help lifts, gives strength and encourages me to be a better me. With this I have become a better person and more dedicated makeup artist to create amazing work.
I truly love all of you who are the ROOTS to my TREE. Don't get me wrong I value everyone who is either a friend/client/joint venture partner. Because you are the people who keep my buisness a float.

When the spirit of POSITIVITY is in place things can only go one way--for the better. I just want to say "Thank You"

2012 New Year Goals and Dreams

Since we are in the beginning of the new year-2012, I would like to share with you some of my goals, dreams and aspirations of the new year.
I have been writing down most of my goals for 2012 since the beginning of Dec. Most of them have been about changing my inner self and giving joy to others. But there is just a few things I really what to do for myself.
1) Pray more and have longer talks with God. For He is the reason I have success and joy in my life and business.
 2) Be more encouraging to myself. This is why I've been posting Daily Morning Affirmations everyday. (for those of you who follow me on Twitter/Facebook/LinkIn know what I'm writing about.)
3) I would love to be the assistant to some of the celebrities or what I call "elite" of makeup artist. (Thomas E. Surprenant, James Vincent, Laura Kay, Eve Pearl, Sam Fine, Jennifer James, Gucci Westman, Lottie Star, Pat McGrath, Victoria Stiles and plenty others)
4) I would love for my work to be feature in a high fashion magazine. (Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, VogueUK, Vogue Italia, ElleUK, Allure and others...)
5) Take more time out to PAMPER ME. I seem to be doing so much for everyone else and not enough time for myself.
6) Take a real vacation.
7) Make it to all the huge events in beauty. (IMATS, The Makeup Show and EVOLUTION)
These are just a few of the things I have written down on my list for 2012. Now it's your turn! What are your goals for the New Year?
Comment on what you would like this year to bring you and what you would like to accomplish.
My hope for everyone is to have happy and blessed 2012.
