Listening and participating on today's Lipstick Lecture was really informative and had me understanding that the decisions I made were right for me. As a Mom in the business of makeup artistry isn't easy. People think one thing that makeup artistry is a glam job not a sometime gritty, hard and put to the grind but thought provoking career. And being a Mom, myself, I've involved my children into the decision I made to becoming a makeup artist in Film and Television. The business is long hours, there are days were I see my child for a few hours in the morning before she goes to school and then I might not see her until the next morning. (But my daughter won't really go to bed until she see me before she close her eyes to sleep.)
The one thing that Marietta Carter-Narcisse said is having a great support team (spouse, mom, dad, sister or brother, or even an awesome nanny) can make all the difference. We definitely need a village to raise a child or children--this statement is so very true. Us, as women have to really understand that we can have it all but not at the same time. This is a concepts that we, women, of today still have not grasped. And understanding this will help greatly in the long run. She also touch on not feeling upset or bad about the decision you make as Mom in the makeup artistry business. Just look into other avenues (hopefully in makeup) that can bring in money and still satisfy your creativity.
My one piece of advice is to new Moms in makeup artistry biz is this--stay true to you and make the right decision for yourself and your career with no regrets. Because every decision you make changes the course of your life and your family's life and your career. So being truthful with yourself should be the highest priority. This really became a great Lipstick Lecture call and one of those AH HA! moments. I hope this helps someone who's reading this that are a Mom or even a Dad.
